Hotel Review: The Modern Honolulu

Hotel Review: The Modern Honolulu

About once a year I make a trip to Hawai’i to see friends and revisit my love of the islands. This year I traveled to Honolulu to celebrate a special event for a close friend – the release of her first hip-hop album! Exciting times!

When I knew I was headed back to O’ahu, the first hotel I thought of to stay in was The Modern. It’s conveniently located near Ala Moana Center, and all shopping, and the beach!

The Modern is a trendy hotel and every night there is a crowd that forms in the lobby. This is a hot spot! If you like to party, stay at The Modern. If you like to people watch, stay at The Modern. If you want to be seen, head to the pools at The Modern.

I loved the energy of the hotel. It was hip and had good vibes. The staff was excellent, so friendly and attentive. I got a Marina View Suite on the northwest corner and had two balconies. Even with the marina view, I could see the ocean too! And, two bonuses: I watched the sunset every night and had an excellent view of the Hilton Hawaiian Village Friday Fireworks!

The suite had a decent floor plan – long entry foyer leading to a cozy living room with a comfy lounging sofa, club chair, round table, TV, and desk – and you can ask for a mini refrigerator! The chair for the desk was not that supportive, and I knew I was going to be doing a lot of work, so I rang Guest Services, and they brought me a new chair! It was great!

The master bedroom and bath were adequate and very well organized. I was impressed with the amount of storage provided in the bathroom area. The water pressure was good in the shower, the toiletry amenities were great, and there was a big picture window that allowed lots of light during the day.

The only downside to my stay was the connecting door located in the foyer. Unfortunately, I could hear EVERYTHING from next door. At the same time, thankfully, the bedroom was separate from the living area so I could close the door at night and find some peace.

I ordered Room Service often, and the food was tasty; although the portions were small-ish, they still sufficiently filled my belly!

Spa treatments were excellent too! I got a massage and pedicure, and both were relaxing.

And on my last night, I received a treat from the hotel staff! It was such a lovely surprise!

Overall, it was a fantastic experience and even though I didn’t make it to the pools, clubs, or the restaurants, I would stay there again when I return to the area.
Check out these fireworks!

Until next time, thanks for reading and Happy Travels!
